ARLINGTON -- Zelma "Jo" Dews, 86, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. on Saturday, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 4325 SW Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, 76017. Interment: Private interment at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
Jo was the wife of Marion "Sam" Dews, and the couple celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Sept. 2. Born in La Mesa, Texas, she was the daughter of Newman "Bob" Watson and Hannah Watson (nee DeShazo). She met Sam in 1950. They married shortly after, and she followed him to England with the Air Force. She supported them financially while he attended the University of Texas at Austin, and they eventually made their way to Anaheim, Calif.
Jo was well-known for her crafts and her talent with a glue-gun; she made numerous flower arrangements and wreaths. You always knew a gift from her, because the wrapping paper never showed a seam, it was sealed with hot glue, had a beautiful bow, and the most lovely handwriting on the tag.
She was an amazing cook, known for making everything from scratch and using measurements like a "dash" and a "scosh." She loved animals, watching birds and squirrels in her yard, and gardening. She was a Rangers fan until "Pudge" left, and was a firm supporter of Clay Aiken on American Idol.
She was always up for an adventure, from road trips around the U.S. to Black Friday shopping with her daughter and granddaughter.
She was predeceased by her mother, Hannah; father, Newman; and sister, Delores Henricks (nee Watson).
Survivors: She is survived by her husband, Sam; daughter, Kim Mory (nee Dews) and son-in-law, Art Mory; granddaughter, Deanna Rust (nee Mory) and grandson-in-law, Brent Rust; great-granddaughter, Everly Rust; numerous friends and family; and she will also be dearly missed by her dog, Jake, her cat Skylar, and the herd of stray outdoor kittens she inherited in recent months.
