ARLINGTON -- Wilma Wallace Howie, 82, passed away on Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, in Arlington due to complications from Alzheimer's.
Memorial visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Memorials: Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or UTA's Dream Makers Nursing Scholarship.
Wilma was born on Nov. 17, 1932, in Meherrin, Va., to Chatmon Lewis Spurlock and Esther Herzig Spurlock. Raised in Virginia, she was one of 11 children. She was a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Nursing. She had resided in Arlington since 1973. Wilma worked as head nurse for the Surgical Recovery Room at Arlington Memorial Hospital for several years. After retiring, she then served as a volunteer at the hospital.
Wilma enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting and cross stitching. Her biggest joy was her family, especially her grandsons.
Survivors: Husband of 30 years, James S. Howie; son, Newell Wallace and wife, Lucretia; daughter, Anne Wallace James; stepchildren, Mary Ann Harpe and husband, Keith, James Howie III and wife, Karen, and John William Howie and wife, Jane; sister, Mary Frances Taylor and husband, Bobby; grandsons, Barker Wallace, Britton Wallace and Austin James; 10 stepgrandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
