Wilma “Jo” Calaway (Burns) Jones, 90, died February 21, 2023, in Dallas, Texas.
She was born Feb 6, 1933, in Russellville, Oklahoma, to John Gillford and Ida Lavina (Williams) Burns.
Jo graduated from Quinton High School, class of 1951. She was the valedictorian. She was very active with sports playing basketball and softball, and was a cheerleader. She was also a clarinetist in the band and served as the band president. After graduation, she graduated from Draughns Business School. Then attended a year at Central State University.
She married Bob G. Calaway on Oct 9, 1954. They lived in Oklahoma City, and then moved to Arlington, Texas in 1977. She worked for Magnolia Oil Company, later known as Mobil Oil Corporation. She filled many positions with the company and retired as the office automation coordinator.
In her later years, she married Jack D. Jones on February 14th, 2012. They enjoyed their retirement between their residence in Texas – and their lake place in Oklahoma.
She was a long-time member of Fielder Church. Member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed painting china dolls and various keepsakes. She also enjoyed making jewelry for family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by sister Freda Tommie ‘Burns’ Burn. Sister Eloise ‘Burns’ Bawcom, Brother Vernon ‘Doc’ Burns. Brothers Elmo Burns and Doyle Burns, Bobby Gene Burns, Husband Bob G. Calaway, husband Jack D. Jones, Nephew Randy Bawcom, Two grand-children, and one great-grandchild.
She is survived by: Daughter, Linda Jo Calaway-Morgan of Oklahoma. Son, Todd Scott Calaway and his wife, Debbie of Mansfield, TX. Granddaughters: Ashley Nicole Calaway and partner Shane. Taressia Jo Morgan and partner Kurtis – All from Oklahoma. Grandson Robert Dickson from Texas. Great grandchildren Chloe, Kylan, Aria, Lyric, and Gunnar. All from Oklahoma.
