Willis Wayne Hankins

Willis “Wayne” Hankins was born in Bowie, Texas on December 2, 1934, to Massie Elbert and Hazel Edgar “Mimi” Hankins. He grew up in Nocona, Texas where he attended First United Methodist Church. He also graduated from Nocona High School in 1953. After which he attended Arlington State College for 2 years and Texas Tech for 6 months. He was working at Douglas Aircraft when he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served for 2 years at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. This is where he met his wife, Virginia “Ginny” Foust. They were married in St. Louis, MO on October 17, 1959. They moved back to Texas where they had 3 sons, David, Mark, and James “Jimmy”. Wayne then completed his education with a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Starting as a draftsman for Lone Star Gas, he finished a 37-year career at Enserch Processing, Inc. as Vice President of Processing Division. He retired in 1998.
Wayne was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and served in many roles there. He was a Trustee, Usher, worked on the Board of Directors, served as President, worked with the Braille ministry, the Grace Lutheran Holy Smokers, an advocate for the Grace Lutheran Church School, and the Boy Scouts. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels.
Wayne loved the outdoors and all that entails, including camping, hunting, and fishing. He was a great cook indoors or out. Above all else, he loved being involved with his boys.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Hazel and Massie Hankins, brother Donald Hankins, and sister-in-law Charlene Wylie.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 64 years Virginia “Ginny”, sons David, and his wife Rebecca, Mark, and his wife Traci, and James “Jimmy” and Shannon, grandchildren: Brian Hankins of Arlington, Timothy Hankins of Pampa, Jonathan Hankins and wife Azlyn of Arlington, James Hankins of Arlington, and Sydney Hankins, Elijah Mooney, and Clara Hankins all of St. Louis, MO, and great grandson Corridon Hankins of Grand Prairie, sister Judy Meyer of Mansfield, and brother Jamie Hankins and his wife Belinda of Fort Worth.

Visitation and Funeral will be at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington, TX on February 25, 2024.
Visitation will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, followed by Funeral service at 3:00 p.m.
Graveside service and burial will be on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Parkdale Cemetery in Arlington.
Memorials can be made to any of the Grace Lutheran Church ministries in which he was involved or Habitat for Humanity.
