Lt. Col. William Robert Griffin, USMC Retired, who was a kind and caring man with a deep relationship with the Lord, went to his heavenly home on Friday, August 14, 2020.
A Memorial Service for Bill will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Tate Springs Baptist Church.
Bill was born on April 30, 1937, to William Powell Griffin and Lillie Gayenelle Carroll Griffin. He grew up in New Iberia, LA.
Bill was a graduate of Captain Shreve High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1957, where he did what loved the most…flying fighter jets. He served his country honorably in Vietnam and across the United States for 24 years before retiring in 1981. He then served his country as a Civilian Aeronautical Engineer and Engineering Fellow. Bill treasured serving in his church by teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, and participating in various church dramas.
Bill was preceded in death by his sons, Daniel Raeford Griffin, of Joshua TX, and David Robert Griffin, of Mansfield, TX.
Bill is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandy Gaddis Griffin, from Asheboro, NC, his daughter Donna Gayenelle Griffin, of Arlington, TX, his sister and brother-in-law Sherry and Richard Lott, of Benton, LA, and his sister and brother-in-law Suzanne and Gerry Sanders of Quitman, TX. He was also blessed to have a large extended family whom he greatly cherished.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.”(Romans 12:2).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shiners Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project.
