William Charles “Bill” Cotter, 81, of Arlington, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023. He was born on April 21, 1942, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, to Howard Leo Cotter and Clara Regina (Sina) Cotter. Bill dedicated 20 years to serving his country in the US Navy. Afterwards, he remained in the defense industry, working at General Dynamics and Bell Helicopter. Bill had an engineering mind and could build or fix anything. Being in the Navy moved the family around the country and they landed in Arlington three separate times.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Imelda (Mel), their children: Victoria, Carla (Chris) Verbosky, Joseph, and Teresa Miller; brother Dr. Patrick (Natasha) Cotter, sisters Mary Cotter and Cecelia (Mark) Holzhauer, and many nieces and nephews. He was a cherished grandfather to Sunny (Brandon) Farr, Alex Miller, and Jaimie Sigler. Bill was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Robert, Thomas, James, Donald, and sister Elizabeth Winchell.
Bill was a devout member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, where he found solace and strength in his faith. He will be remembered for his active involvement as the Financial Secretary for Knights of Columbus Council 6269.
Visitation to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at Wade Funeral Home and Crematory in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday, December 26, 2023, from 4 – 6:00 pm. The funeral service will be Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 11:00 am at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Arlington. A Military burial service will take place the following week at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to Texas Right to Life in memory of Bill Cotter.
