William "Bill" Washington Johnson

January 28, 1931 — May 17, 2018

With sadness, yet tremendous pride, we share the passing of our beloved William "Bill" Washington Johnson Jr., 87, who passed away Thursday, May 17, 2018 in Arlington, Texas. Bill was born on January 28, 1931 in Miller Grove, Texas to Annie Blount Johnson and William Washington Johnson, Sr. Raised in Miller Grove and Cumby Texas with his sisters, Bill joined the USA Marine Corp at age of 16, where he served 4 years and is a Korean War Veteran. His adult life was spent living in Oak Cliff, De Soto, Richland Chambers, and Arlington. He was a proud 32-degree Scottish Rite Freemason at Gibraltar Lodge No. 1179, where he enjoyed fellowship and serving others. Bill had a wonderfully successful career, retiring from LTV Missiles and Electronics Group (Missiles Division 1952 – 1990). During his lifetime, Bill loved fishing, hunting, boating and woodworking. If he wasn't enjoying the great outdoors, he could be found in his workshop. He created many treasured pieces of furniture and smaller projects for family and friends. As a resourceful man with great common sense and many talents, he was happy to help anyone in need. He was our very own “Mr. Google” and we certainly will miss leaning on him for assistance and advice. After retirement, he spent most of his time gardening, fishing, boating with his family, and the many new friends he made while living on Richland Chambers Lake in southeast Texas. While at the lake, he was a volunteer fireman and also served his expanding community in numerous ways. Bill was an excellent cook! He was near famous, however, for his fish fry & hushpuppy dinners, homemade breakfast biscuits, hot sauce, summer sausage, and delicious cornbread. The past 17 years he spent back in Arlington, Texas enjoying life with his growing family. He was a member of South Oaks Baptist Church and enjoyed his Sunday School classmates. His wonderful neighbors became friends and would often stop by to chat while he worked on projects in his garage workshop. He was a remarkable grandfather and great-grandfather. The many years of life-lessons he taught, mostly by example, will certainly be handed down for generations to come. He leaves us all with beautiful, fun loving memories, and will remain forever in our hearts. The family will receive friends from 3-5PM on Sunday, May 20th, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Pkwy in Arlington, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, Monday, May 21, 2018 at Wade Family Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 3:00PM in Miller Grove Cemetery, Miller Grove, Texas. Bill is preceded in death by his loving parents and 6 doting sisters (Wilma, Edith, Rema, Melba Dean, Freida and Billie Ann); his beloved son, William Dennis Johnson; and son-in-law Daniel Fuller. Bill is survived by his cherished and devoted wife of 45 years, Jane S. Johnson. Together, they enjoyed many years of travel and the joy of raising four daughters and a son, followed by 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His surviving children include daughters, Denise Landrum; Tina Fuller-Jones and husband, Mike Jones; Monica Coney and Steve Gonzales; Kimberly Berman and husband, Steven Berman.
