HURST -- John Wendell "J.W." Langham, 76, lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at his home in Hurst.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at California Lane Church of Christ, 1906 California Lane, Arlington. Interment: 2:30 p.m. Monday in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Fort Smith, Ark. Visitation: The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service, at the church.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Arch L. Ferguson Foundation, 601 E. Abram St., Arlington, Texas 76010; or the Berean Children's Home, Box 1009 Brookhaven, Miss. 39602.
Wendell was born May 5, 1936, in Hot Springs, Ark., to Lloyd and Opel Langham. He was raised in Fort Smith, Ark. He worked for the family business and also for Dixie Cup Co. He married Barbara Williams on Sept. 24, 1954. He received many awards in high school for his singing. The Lord called Wendell to preach. He and Barbara were in the ministry for over 20 years. Wendell preached full time for churches in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas and Texas. They moved to Hurst in 1993 and retired there. Wendell and Barbara are members of California Lane Church of Christ in Arlington.
Wendell was predeceased by one grandson, Jonathan James Langham; two brothers, Lloyd Paul Langham and Lloyd Bruce Langham; and niece, Sherrye Langham.
Survivors: His loving wife of 57 years, Barbara; daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Walker Hargrove of Farmers Branch; son and daughter-in-law, Leland and Suzie Langham, of Parsons, Kan.; four grandchildren, Julia Riley, Steven Langham, Kara Langham and Rachel Hargrove; and grandson-in-law, Andrew Riley. He is also survived by two great-grandsons, Brydan Riley and Kaiden Riley; sister-in-law,
Billie Colvard; brother-in-law, Velton Williams; nephew, Michael Langham and his wife, Rachel; and niece, BruCinda McKee and her husband, Robert.
