Wanda was born on December 6, 1932, in McAllen, Texas to Clelland Harris and Martha Maxwell Harris.
She grew up in San Antonio, then attended Texas Women’s University and The University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1954 with a Speech Therapy degree. It was in Austin that she met and then married her husband, Wayne, in 1955. While Wayne was in medical school in Galveston, Wanda taught special education speech classes until her first child was born in 1957. After moving several times with Wayne’s residency programs, Wanda and Wayne settled in Arlington, Texas, where Wayne began his Medical Practice. They both gave their hearts and talents to the community, and truly loved raising their family there. She was dedicated to her children, spending time with their friends and making an impact on their lives. She loved being a grandmother and had a special bond with her grandson Michael.
Wanda was a very loving and social person and enjoyed cooking and entertaining. Spending time with her family and friends brought her so much joy and her gift of hospitality always made everyone feel extra special. She was truly a people person. Her home was a favorite place for everyone to gather and have special events.
Wanda had a very strong faith in the Lord and began her mornings by reading her Bible. She was active at Trinity United Methodist Church and loved being in Bible Study groups with her close friends. She also served alongside her friends in the Junior League, the Civic League and in volunteer organizations such as Meals on Wheels. She treasured those relationships and her life-long friends.
Wanda and Wayne loved each other deeply and enjoyed 67 years of marriage together. They travelled all over the world together and were inseparable.
Our mother had such a big heart and was a great example of loving all kinds of people. We will truly miss her, but we know that she is rejoicing now in her Heavenly Home.
