Arlington -- Virgina Winker passed away Thursday, April, 4, 2013, in Round Rock. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church, 910 S. Collins St., Arlington, with Dr. Andy Magnum officiating. Interment: Private family burial. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Memorials: The family requests that contributions be made to First Christian Church of Arlington or the Christian Church Foundation Permanent Fund, 130 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, Ind. 46206. Virginia was born June 24, 1934, in Fort Worth to Osbourne and Dee Linguist. She graduated from North Texas State College with a B.A. in journalism, the University of Minnesota with an M.A. in journalism, and Southern Methodist University with a juris doctorate. She was a member of the Federal Bar and the State Bar of Texas. She worked as an attorney for the Department of Housing and Urban Development until she "retired" in 1986, when she entered private practice in Arlington. She retired from private practice in 2010 but continued to perform limited legal work until recently. Virginia chaired and served on many boards throughout her career. She lived the majority of her life in Fort Worth and Arlington. In 2011, she moved to Round Rock to live near her son. She was very active in the church and was elder emeritus at First Christian Church in Arlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank William Winker, and daughter, Jeanne Elizabeth Winker. Survivors: Son, Dr. Douglas F. Winker and wife, Anjuli, of Round Rock; sister, Dorothy Heinzman of Arlington; brother, Osborne Linguist of Goldthwaite; brother, Tom Linguist of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
