Virginia Chance

January 12, 1954 — June 22, 2022

Virginia “Vonnie” Lavon Chance was ushered into her Heavenly Father’s arms on June 22, 2022, after a two-year battle with cancer. Vonnie was born in Big Spring, Texas, to the late Earsie Miller of Rosebud, Texas, and Ruth Mae Biggs Miller of Calvert, Texas, on January 12, 1954. At an early age, she was immersed in the Christian community. Her membership at Allen Chapel AME (Grand Prairie, Texas), Tabernacle of Praise (Dallas, Texas), and Crossroad Christian Church (Grand Prairie, Texas) were building blocks to her growing her relationship with Christ. However, her membership at Antioch Christian Church (Irving, Texas), allowed her to develop a deeper and more personal relationship with her Creator.

Vonnie graduated from Big Spring High School, attended Howard County Jr. College, and received her LVN certification from Baylor School of Nursing. She worked for Social Security Administration from 2000 until her retirement in October 2021. Vonnie was blessed with a large and loving family of five sisters; Earsie Jean Miller of Vallejo, California; Patricia Ann (Miller) Bartley deceased, Winifred (Miller) Hightower deceased, Betty Tom Montgomery deceased, and Jo (Miller) Fuller deceased; and three brothers: William “Billy” Miller deceased, Tommy Miller of Glenn Heights, Texas; and Tyrone Miller of Dallas, Texas.

She was also blessed with two great loves. John Codis Turner of Big Spring, Texas, was her first great love for over twenty years until his departure in 1991. They produced two beautiful children, Tamika Johnson (Raymond) of Grand Prairie, Texas, and Antrone Turner (Gynisse) of Grand Prairie, Texas, which yielded six grandchildren: Ryon Minter, Raymond Johnson, IV, Ryland Johnson, Shaiya Turner, Gabriel Turner deceased, and Skylar Turner, and a great-grandchild, Nova Ridge Smith. Her second great love, Noel Russell Chance of San Angelo, Texas, created a life of love and comedic memories until his departure in 2014.

Vonnie was kind, soft-spoken, and always giving. Her favorite pastime was reading novels, playing cards, watching westerns, and putting together 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles. She will be missed dearly by her loved ones. Although she leaves behind to celebrate her life and legacy are her sister: Jeannie; brothers: Tommy and Tyrone; sisters-in-law: Ellen Turner Clewis, Joyce Turner, Linda Turner Miller; brothers-in-law: Rayfield Turner and Kenneth Turner; and nieces (including two special nieces who were like daughters: Shirley Drew and Kimono Montgomery); nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; a host of good friends, especially Peggy Smith, Jennifer Coit, Barbara Washington, and Annaclair Taitt; she is reunited with her grandparents, parents, her siblings that have gone on before her, her two great loves, her grandson, Gabriel, and her in-laws who loved her like she was their own: Jake Turner, Terry Turner, Wayne Turner, and Charlie Turner, and her best friend, Linda Farmer (G-Dub).
