Virginia Ann Cowan Koppany was born July 24th, 1939 in the back of the family jewelry store in Throckmorton, Texas. She was the only child of Kenneth and Anne Cowan. They lived in Throckmorton for several years until Kenneth joined the Navy as an ordinance inspector during WWII, at which time they spent 6 years in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.
The family returned to Texas and settled in Hereford in 1951, where Kenneth “Doc” Cowan opened Cowan's Jewelers on Main Street. Virginia Ann went to Hereford High School and afterwards joined the Hereford Police Department as a dispatcher. It was during this time she met a young Texas Highway Patrolman, Charles Skinner. They were married in 1961. In August of 1964, Virginia Ann gave birth to their only child, Morgan Scot Skinner. Charles and Virginia Ann began working for Kenneth and Anne at the jewelry store and would ultimately buy it from them when the Cowan's retired in 1977.
Virginia Ann was a longtime member and attendee of First United Methodist Church. Charles and Virginia divorced in 1982 and Virginia remarried Karl Koppany in 1983 and soon after moved to Arlington. Virginia owned and operated Virginia's Gifts on Pioneer Parkway for about 12 years. During this time, she became very involved in bible studies and teaching. She loved to travel, read, was an expert in needlepoint, and had a great love for her Chow dogs and birds.
She is survived by her husband Karl of Arlington, son and daughter in law, Scot and Cathie Skinner of Carrollton, and a grandson Kenneth Cale Skinner and his wife, Claire from Wylie, Texas.
