Crowley, TX

Vicki Lynn Gilbreath, born on February 28, 1953, in San Juan, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas. Vicki’s life was a testament to love, resilience, and generosity, and she leaves behind cherished memories for her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Vicki grew up as the eldest of her siblings, taking on a motherly role when they tragically lost their parents at a young age. She and her siblings were placed in a children’s home, where her strength and nurturing spirit helped hold the family together. As the years passed, Vicki’s love for her family only grew stronger. She was known for her warmth, her listening ear, and her deep love for her brothers and sisters, who always felt her support.

On October 26, 1972, Vicki married the love of her life, Frank Gilbreath, and they had just celebrated 52 beautiful years together. Through Frank’s 20-year Air Force career, the couple traveled across the country, embracing every new adventure. Some of their most cherished memories were of their road trips, where they’d pull off for a picnic in the shade and savor the simple joys of the journey together. Vicki’s unwavering love, respect, and trust made their marriage a blessing, and she gave Frank the greatest gift of all—their beloved son, William.

Family and tradition were central to Vicki's life. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and Thanksgiving became a cherished family tradition, with Vicki hosting a large meal filled with delicious dishes and her famous desserts. An accomplished cook and baker, she took pride in creating memorable meals for her loved ones.

Vicki’s passions extended to her hobbies, including crocheting, caring for her plants, and decorating her home. She had a natural gift for interior decorating, filling her home with warmth, beauty, and personal touches that made everyone feel welcome. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, bringing them joy with her love and playfulness. Her kind and approachable nature made her a friend to everyone she met—Vicki truly never met a stranger. Through many of her Air Force assignments and church-sponsored daycare work, she made friendships that lasted a lifetime, enriching her life with bonds that spanned the years.

A graduate of Sharyland High School, Vicki was also deeply committed to serving others. She especially enjoyed caring for children in a church-run community daycare, where her nurturing spirit touched countless young lives. Her kindness and love for children were evident to all who knew her.

Vicki was preceded in death by her parents, R.C. Locke and Geraldine Locke, and her beloved daughter-in-law, Michelle Gilbreath, as well as many dear aunts and uncles. She is survived by her loving husband, Frank Gilbreath; her son, William N. Gilbreath; brothers Jamie D. Locke (Glenda), Ronald C. Locke (Mercia), Alan G. Locke, and Jeffrey P. Locke (Roxanne); sisters Brenda J. Locke Owens and Sue E. Locke Eveleth (William); grandchildren David Barnwell (Kalynn), Troy Gilbreath, and Tommy Gilbreath; and six great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed to know her love. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, as well as very close friends of the family, all of whom cherished her warmth, kindness, and unwavering support.

Vicki’s legacy is one of love, faith, and warmth. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone whose lives she touched. Her memory lives on in the love she shared with all who were fortunate to know her.
