Vesta Hazel Jennings

ARLINGTON -- Vesta Hazel (Nix) Jennings went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2015 in Arlington, TX at the age of 96. She was a resident of Meadowbrook Memory Care in Arlington. Funeral: 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 2100 Buddy Ganem Dr., Portland, Texas, with Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Visitation: 9 to 10 a.m. prior to the service. Interment: Cenizo Hill Cemetery, Mathis, TX. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that donations be given to Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Vesta Hazel Nix was born October, 28, 1918 in Kingsville, TX. She married W.A. Jennings, Jr. on November 26, 1936 and they lived in Mathis, TX for 30 years until 1968 when they moved to Portland, TX. She was employed as an office assistant for Dr. Robert Gilmore for 22 years. She resided in Portland for 42 years when she relocated to Arlington, TX in 2010. Vesta loved her family and enjoyed frequent get togethers with her three brothers and nine sisters. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Portland, TX and belonged to the "New Beginnings" Sunday School class there for many years. Vesta was preceded in death by her parents, Lorenzo Dow Nix and Lille Virginia (Romack) Nix; husband, W.A. Jennings, Jr; daughter, Jo Ann (Jennings) Bradley; son, Robert Bryan Jennings; brothers, Lester Paul Nix and Carl William (Bill) Nix; and sisters, Lena Mae Stewart, Margaret Boggan, Leora Ligon, Gladys Cross, and Lois Tate. Survivors: Daughter, Norma Sue Harbin and husband, Kenneth W. Harbin of Kennedale, TX; brother, Harrel Nix of Kinsgville, TX; sisters, Evelyn Dean of Kingsville, TX, Doris McNeil of Beaver Creek, OH, Darlene Wright of San Lorenzo, CA and Connie Clark of Odessa, TX; as well as seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson; and one great-great granddaughter.
