Dr. Vance E. Shearer, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016.Visitation: 6-8 p.m Monday, March 28, and Memorial Service: 10:00 am Tuesday, March 29 will be held at Wade Funeral Home in Arlington TX . Burial with honors Tuesday, March 29 at 12:30pm at DFW National Cemetery. Memorials: St. Jude Hospital, SPCA, or A.H. “Buddy” Giesecke, Jr., M.D. Fund in Anesthesiology, UT Southwestern Medical Center P.O. Box 910888, Dallas, TX 75391. Vance was born March 10, 1947, to the late Clarence and Florence Shearer in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965 where he became Chief Warrant Officer 2 in aviation. Vance served 1 tour in Vietnam from 1967-1968 as a helicopter pilot earning many honors and medals including: Purple Heart, Air Medal with 28 Oak Leaf Clusters two awarded for Valor, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. Following his tour in Vietnam, Vance service as a flight instructor at Fort Wolters. In December 1969, Vance was honorably discharge from the U.S. Army and began his service as an agent for the U.S. Secret Service at the White House. Vance worked for the Dallas Police Department from1972-1982 were he served as helicopter officer and later a beat cop in West Dallas. Vance graduated from UT Southwestern Medical School in 1985 with a degree in medicine. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at Parkland Hospital. Vance worked for UT Southwestern Medical Center for over 19 years as anesthesiologist were he served as the Director of Trauma Anesthesia at Parkland Hospital and retired as a full professor of anesthesiology. On July 19, 1991, Vance married Terri L. Moore. Vance enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Vance's favorite activity was cooking. Vance cooked many delicious meals for his family and friends on the holidays as well as for his hospital crew. Vance was a member of the Vinh Long Outlaws and Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association. Vance died as he had lived faithful servant to his God, his family, his community and his country. Survivors: Loving wife of 24 years, Terri; daughter Carin Shearer and fiancé Will Hood; son Alex Shearer and fiancé Laura Slavick, daughter Alexis Shearer, and granddaughter Jacqueline Faye Hood; brothers Mark and Tom Shearer; and sisters Clarice Schweppenheiser and Susan Heal.
