ARLINGTON -- Troy Gerald Kegans, 88, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 in Arlington.
Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 313 N. Center St., Arlington with Dr. David Mosser officiating.
Troy was born July 2, 1928 in Trent, Texas to John Herbert Kegans and Laura Bright Kegans. He graduated from Trent High School, Home of the GORILLAS, in 1946. Troy attended McMurry University in Abilene; majoring in business administration; and playing football and baseball. He received a letter from Branch Rickey to tryout for the Fort Worth Cats that were a part of the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. He chose to finish college and marry Jean Walker of Loraine, Texas, graduating in 1950.
Troy started his career in the tire business working for Firestone Tire, in 1966 he joined General Tire. He went through several promotions (store manager, district manager, regional manager), and retired in 1987 as Vice President of Sales in the corporate office in Akron, Ohio. Troy's career was filled with rewarding experiences, including international travel, great friends and lasting memories from their Akron home.
In 1987, he retired at the age of 59. Troy and Jean moved to Arlington to be closer to family and friends. He loved to play golf and play gin with his buddies. Troy was a member of Walnut Creek Country Club for several years and also loved playing golf with his buddies in the Arlington Senior Mens Golf Association. He joined First United Methodist Church in Arlington in 1987. Troy loved his church and Sunday school class "Wesley Progressers". He was an avid and loyal Texas Rangers Baseball Club fan.
Troy's extended family loved him as the true patriarch of the family. He was the most gentle, kindest man anyone could imagine. However, there was never a question who was in charge. Since 1955, annual Kegans' reunions were held that consisted of the three families, his sister, Wanda's and his little brother, Eugene's families. There will always be a giant hole now that he is with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
