Travis Lee Tyre, 55, of Arlington, TX, died April 18, after suffering a concussion from a fall while on a business trip to Alaska. Service: Travis' funeral will be held at the Arlington Seventh-day Adventist church at 3pm on Saturday, April 27. The service will be live-streamed at Arlingtonadventist.com. Burial will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Funeral arrangements are being made by Wade Family Funeral Home. Travis was born May 6, 1963, in Anson, TX, to Carolyn Fairchild and Gerald Tyre. With his father being in the Air Force, Travis lived in Spain, Greece, Canada, Maine, and Iran during his childhood. He attended Tehran American School from 8th to 10th grades. He moved from Tehran in 1979, as the chaos was mounting during the Iranian Revolution. He graduated from Richland High School in 1981 and Dallas Baptist University in 1986. During his 20s, Travis wrote and directed plays and documentaries for theatre and television. He worked from 1989-1992 at Creative Arts Theater & School (CATS) where he wrote and directed plays. He was privileged to direct and mentor many young people with whom he remained close. After writing two theatre textbooks and several plays, he was introduced to and became active in the publishing world. Travis was an original cast member of The Promise, the long-running musical of the life of Jesus at the Texas Amphitheater in Glen Rose. When he created the role of Satan, he understood that the power was in its subtlety. Always be present. Always be watching. He carried the belief of remaining “simple, subtle, and direct” into his 10 years as the show's director. In 1991, while still playing the role of Satan, Travis met Elizabeth Jensen who had gone to see The Promise. They began dating in 1992 and married on November 21, 1993. In their 25 years of marriage, they had many adventures, the greatest of which was raising their two sons, Andrew and Matthew. His family was his pride and joy, and he said so often. They lived together in Arlington, TX for the last 15 years. After he was married, Travis started a career editing books for Harcourt, Random House, and Voyager. He was an award-winning documentary scriptwriter whose work has been seen on PBS, ABC, and The Discovery Channel. He later became president of Timelink Media, where he was also a certified family historian. Most recently Travis had been commissioned to write a novel based in Alaska. He was very excited to be conducting research for this book when the accident occurred. Travis was preceded in death by his brother, Justin. Travis is survived by his wife of 25 years, Elizabeth Anne, and sons, Andrew Sean and Matthew Aaron, of Arlington. Also surviving are his father Gerald Tyre of Bedford; mother Carolyn Fairchild of Roanoke; brother Thomas C. Tyre and wife Regina of Springtown; sister Sherri Thomson and husband Jim of Granbury; sister Michelle Lindsey and husband Duke of San Saba; father and mother-in-law Dan and Jonelle Jensen of Claremore, OK; sister-in-law Jennifer Dohlman and husband Matt of Tulsa, OK; 11 nieces and nephews; 6 great-nieces and great-nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
