Tracy Joe Dotson

Tracy Joe Dotson passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 after a two-month battle with pneumonia. Tracy is survived by his wife, Robin, his children, John, Shamus, and Sydney, and his siblings Tam, Trent, and Todd. He is preceded in death by his father, George Dotson, his mother, Betty Atkinson Dotson, and his brothers, Tony and Tim. Tracy was born on August 27, 1962 in Greenville, Mississippi. His dad was in the military, so the family lived in several states as he grew up, including Mississippi, Missouri, and Nevada. He joined the military himself in 1985, and spent 10 years in the Marine Corps, most notably living in Okinawa, Japan. He developed a love of scuba diving in Japan, and worked as an instructor in his free time. Also during his time in the military, he had two sons, John and Shamus, who he loved very much. After leaving the Marine Corps, he joined American Airlines in Los Angeles as a Fleet Service Ramp Supervisor. He then transferred with American to Tulsa, Oklahoma as a Worker's Compensation Supervisor, which is where he met his wife, Robin, who also worked for American. They transferred to Arlington in 1998 and married. Their daughter, Sydney, was born in 2000. Tracy joined the Grand Prairie Police Department in 1998, and then the Dallas County District Attorney's Office in 2002 as a Criminal Investigator. During his 19 years in at the D.A.'s Office, he was most proud of his stint as a Special Deputy for the U.S. Marshals Service as a member of the Fugitive Task Force. In his spare time, Tracy liked nothing better than going to see Sydney perform in musicals around the DFW metroplex and in college at Texas Tech. He also liked to tinker in the garage, shoot guns at the range, drink whiskey, watch car shows on TV, play with the cats, and talk to his friends for hours on end. He will be greatly missed by his incredibly supportive friends and family! In lieu of a funeral service, a celebration of Tracy's life will be held at a later date.
