Tommy Truitt McRoberts, a beloved father, grandfather, friend, and respected member of the Arlington community, passed unexpectedly from this Earthly life on March 28, 2025, at the age of 77. He was a proud Texan, a devoted military veteran, and a public servant who dedicated his life to protecting others.
Born in Lewisville, Texas to Beauford and Dorothy, Tommy was the youngest of four children. He was a lighthearted jokester and a joy to his family. Tommy spent most of his younger years living in Jacksboro, a place that stayed near and dear to his heart until the very end. Tommy valued family and friends above all else, indicative of his small town roots.
At just 19 years old, Tommy joined the United States Army. He served his country during the Vietnam War. He received many commendations during his service, including the Army Commendation Medal for Heroism. It was awarded to him for repeatedly exposing himself to heavy enemy fire to assist wounded comrades and help them to safety. Sergeant McRoberts earned the admiration of his fellow soldiers and a deep respect for his devotion to duty.
Upon his return home, Tommy attended Midwestern University to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. While there, he worked as a police officer, continuing to put his life on the line and showing his repeated desire to protect anyone and everyone needing protection. Tommy continued his career as a border patrol agent, living in Laredo, as well as the Bahamas. He had a love for good food and good company and enjoyed immersing himself in the cultures he settled into. Years later, Tommy settled in Arlington, Texas. He furthered his career in the government as a Federal Agent, working in Dallas. Tommy served with honor and integrity. He also loved the Law Enforcement annual chili cook-off, even winning occasionally. He was an expert marksman and worked all over the world, having so many interesting stories to tell. His work not only exemplified his love for service but also his dedication to making the world a safer place for all. He made many lifelong friends in his time as a Special Agent, and his legacy lives on through the example of selflessness and unconditional love he showed.
Beyond his professional achievements, Tommy was a man of great character and kindness. He was a hard worker, but he knew how to let loose and have fun when the time to work was over. He enjoyed his retired life immensely, finding joy in the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and playing golf. His passion for nature and the beauty of the world around him was reflected in every aspect of his life. Whether on a quiet fishing trip or enjoying a round of golf with friends, Tommy lived life fully and embraced each day with a spirit of adventure.
Tommy was known for his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished his family above all else. His kindness, humor, and generosity touched everyone who knew him. He had a vast circle of friends, all of whom were blessed to know a man who lived life with such genuine warmth and authenticity. Tommy will forever be remembered for his courage, his loyalty, and his deep love for his family, friends, and country.
Tommy is survived by his children, Kim McRoberts Butler, Jason McRoberts, Sam McRoberts (Ashley), and Jennie McRoberts Loy (Jordan), grandchildren, Brooke, Ethan, Kaylin, Connor, Kollin, and Nathan, as well as his great-grandson, Axel.
He is preceded in death by his father, Beauford, mother, Dorothy, and siblings, Beauford (died as an infant), Bill, Roy, and Donna, and his parents-in-law, Mac and Ruth McKee.
