She was born December 15, 1933 in Port Arthur Texas, to Lyle and Beatrice Berry. She was a big sister to Lyle and Milton, known to family as Bud and Buddy.
Tommie graduated Destrehan High School, Destrehan Louisiana in 1952, and went on to receive her Registered Nursing degree from Mather School of Nursing in 1955. While working in Louisiana she came across a handsome young doctor named Doyle. After Doyle saved enough money from giving blood to the blood bank, he purchased a diamond. On January 11, 1956, they we wed. They had a small ceremony officiated by Doyle's father, Reverend William Lansford. Shortly after, they moved to Texas and they started a family of their own. Over the next several years they were blessed with 4 children, James, David, Laura and Elizabeth. Although most of the time, one or more of the kids was “crusin for a brusin”, she managed to guide all four to adulthood with patience, understanding and love.
Inevitably the kids grew up, and started their own lives. Tommie, lovingly referred to as Bams, was blessed with five grandsons, Jarrod, Kavan, Curtis, Ryan and Kyle. The following years were filled with hugs, unconditional love and baking of cookies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother.
Survivors: brother Milton and wife Betty, sister-in-law Linda; sons, James Lansford and wife Donna, David Lansford and wife Rema; daughters Laura Nix, Elizabeth Bell and husband Bobby; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren with one on the way; and numerous nieces and one nephew.
