Thomas William Harris

Tom Harris, 85, a proud native Texan, passed away peacefully at his home in Arlington, on May 13, 2017 with his family at his side. Services: A visitation will be held from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Wade Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. Funeral Services will begin at 12 p.m. immediately following the visitation at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mission Arlington. Tom was born July 29, 1931 in the family farmhouse in Rusk County, Texas. He worked on the farm with his parents and siblings. He attended Gaston School grades 1-12, graduating in 1949. He was graduated with a B.A. degree from UT Austin. While attending medical school in Dallas, he met and married the love of his life, Mary Anne Roberts. After graduation in 1956 with an M.D. degree from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, he served four years as an Army Medical Officer. Captain Harris was posted to Fort Lewis, Washington and Fort Richardson, Alaska. In June 1960 Dr. Harris moved from Alaska to Fort Worth and has continued to live or practice in Tarrant County. After a short general practice, he commuted to a residency in anesthesiology at Parkland Hospital in Dallas from April 1961 until April 1963. He then began a practice of anesthesiology, mostly at Harris Hospital Ft. Worth and Arlington Memorial Hospital, He was a devoted physician, husband, parent and grandparent. He will be missed by all of the lives he touched. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Thomas Walton Harris and Mittie Jarrell Harris; sisters, Jerry Harris and Blanche Anderton; and son, Gregory Warren Harris. Dearly loved and loving wife of 64 years, Mary Anne Roberts Harris: son, Jeffrey R. Harris, M.D. and wife, Judy Wasserheit, M.D. of Seattle; daughter-in-law, Danielle Chatillon of Las Vegas, NV; daughter, Kathryn Anne Yoakum & husband, Danny, of Austin; grandsons, Mitchell Harris (Geoffrey Whitten), Tony Harris (Samantha), Matthew Faxon and Asher Harris; and granddaughter, Chelsea Faxon (David Reeves); brother, Kimble Harris & wife, Ann of Henderson, TX; sister-in-law, Carol Sue Roberts Callahan, of Conroe, TX; five nieces & two nephews.
