Tom was born on March 10, 1945 in Eugene, OR, to George and Pebble Wood. He was raised in Myrtle Creek, OR where they lived by the river and he worked with his dad on a logging crew. After graduating from Myrtle Creek High School in 1963, he then enlisted in the United States Navy. He received multiple awards during his time including National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He honorably served his country and upon discharge in 1971 he returned to Portland and worked as the controller at Clark Jr.
Tom met Marsha during these years and they married on August 28, 1982 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Beaverton, OR. They then moved to Texas with son Matthew to start their own business, Business Marketing Source. Tom and Marsha then welcomed daughter, Michelle, and enjoyed many busy years. Together, they were charter members of Crown of Life Lutheran church while living in Colleyville and Tom was their first baptized member in 1983.
Tom and Marsha were successful business owners and retired in 2001. Tom's work ethic was a notable quality and he continued to advise many others in their business ventures as well as remained involved with his church. He was a member at St. Paul Lutheran Church and involved throughout the years with different boards and as church treasurer. Tom and Marsha loved their Lifecare group and strong Christian friends. Tom was on the Board of Lutheran Hymn Festival and music was one of the ways he worshiped God.
Tom and Marsha loved to travel and took many trips around the United States and internationally. One of their favorites to travel was Charleston, SC and NewPort, RI. He especially enjoyed time with family, catching up with friends, taking road trips and spending time on the Oregon Coast. In his later retirement years he enjoyed stained glass, landscaping, watching the stock markets, and hanging out with the family dog, Abby. Tom was a faithful man of God, a great listener, faithful husband, great provider, a unique sense of humor, a loyal friend, and kind soul to everyone he met.
Well done good and faithful servant.
