Thomas Henry Simpson

Thomas Henry Simpson, PhD of Dearborn Heights, MI, an Associate Professor of Audiology at Wayne State University (WSU), passed away on January 19, 2023, at the age of 75. He was born September 13, 1947, in Auburn, NY and was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford John Simpson and Agnes Day Simpson, and his daughter, Kylie Taylor Simpson. Tom is survived by his beloved wife Carolyn C. H. Simpson, his sisters PJ (Gus) Haidaris and Judy Day of Rochester, NY and extended family including stepchildren Miron Hamilton, Tqunish Hamilton, Donnell Covington, Ciara Covington, Anthony Covington, many cousins and nieces and nephews on both sides of his family.

Tom earned his PhD in Audiology from Michigan State University in 1984 and served on the faculty at WSU since 1990. His numerous research and teaching interests were in the effects of noise on hearing loss prevention and occupational hearing loss. Tom loved teaching his WSU audiology students so much that he continued teaching until his recent retirement in 2022. He was especially grateful to Andrea for her extraordinary kindness and support during his time at WSU.

Tom was a gifted musician who performed in various bands touring east of the Mississippi in the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s. Tom’s personality was one of a kind-he loved to make people laugh. He was caring, generous, compassionate, thoughtful and kind to everyone. Tom made many friends along the way.
