Tex Dillard Hopkins

Tex Hopkins, 61, husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and retired law enforcement officer of 33 years, was embraced by the arms of Jesus on Sunday, October 11, 2020 while he was surrounded by his loved ones. A visitation for friends of Tex will be on Monday, October 19, 2020, 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington, TX 76013. Please come pay your respects as Tex will be laid to rest at a private burial ceremony. A Celebration of Life will be on Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Crossroads Christian Church, 6450 S. State Highway 360, Grand Prairie, TX 75052. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association and/or Arlington Police Association. Tex was born on November 25, 1958 in Arlington, TX. He was raised in Grand Prairie,TX by his mother, Katie Stroud Hopkins, and father ND Hopkins. He was one of 5 children. Tex was born again and accepted Jesus into his heart at age 8. He always lived his life for the Lord from that moment on. His faith was so important to him from even such a young age. It truly impacted the man he was and how he treated others. Tex graduated from Grand Prairie High School in 1977 and completed a 1 year construction program at Texas State Technical College in Waco. He then worked for Hopkins Construction until 1982. Tex decided to pave his own way and heard the calling to become a police officer. In 1982 he became an officer with the Arlington Police Department. By 1987, he became a Corporal as he was assigned the position of Field Training Officer for APD. In March of 1994, he became the Arlington PD Academy Mentor where he continued as a Field Training Officer. In August of 1996, he advanced to the position of Arlington PD Fugitive Detective until he retired from APD on January 31, 2011, completing his 28 years of service to the City of Arlington. He then became a Fort Worth Deputy Marshall and retired from the City of Fort Worth in 2016. What he was most known for was the role he played as a husband and father. He married Elizabeth in 2009. He would often say she was the best thing that's ever happened to him and she would say the same about him. There are no words to express the kind of father he was to Blake and Jessica. He was truly one of a kind. After marrying Elizabeth, he loved her sons, Nick and Cody Amos as his own. He was preceded in death by his parents, ND Hopkins and Katie Stroud Hopkins. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hopkins; his daughter, Jessica Brost and husband, Matt; his son, Blake Hopkins and wife, Kim; his son, Nick Amos and Raquel; son, Cody Amos and wife, Arami; five grandchildren, Layla Brost, Camy Hopkins, Izzy Brost, Kate Hopkins, and River Amos; his very special aunts, Diane Caramico and Deloris Poulos; uncles, Ora Lee Hopkins and Terry Lane Hopkins, Earl Stroud; his step-mother, Betty Hopkins; four siblings, Veronica Hopkins, Ron Hopkins, Gary Hopkins and Kathy Ellis; and a large number of other relatives and friends.
