Tevin Wayne Cates

March 29, 1996 — October 7, 2019

Tevin Wayne Cates went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 7, 2019. Tevin was born in Arlington, Texas on March 29, 1996 to Marcus and Donna Cates. During his 23 ½ years of life, Tevin lived life to the fullest. Tevin completed his second degree blackbelt by the age of 11, was in over 150 theatre productions across the metroplex, worked for Disney and Apple simultaneously, and completed over 250 escape rooms from California to New York to Florida. Tevin had a special relationship with so many people, it is difficult to put it all into words. Tevin did not care how old you were, he took the time to talk, listen, and just be there with people he loved. When he was little, Tevin and his granddad would make a plan for each day. That plan usually included a trip to a park and even some time at Chuck E. Cheese. Tevin loved his cousins, and some of his favorite days growing up were with his Granddad, sister, and cousins when Granddad would take them to 4-5 parks in a day until everyone was tired except for Tevin. Tevin always seemed to have an abundance of energy. Tevin embraced life. Recently it was said that Tevin did not stop and smell the roses, he ran through the garden, grabbed the roses, and danced off to his next adventure. Tevin loved his family and friends fiercely. He moved back from Orlando just in time to attend every event for his sister, Taryn's, senior year—including every volleyball match. At the age of 4, Tevin started taking acting lessons, and from then on, life was one big show for him. Even when he played basketball at church in elementary school, Tevin always wanted to make sure his audience was watching. Tevin performed at CATS, Theatre Arlington, and Artisan Center Theatre until high school, when he started branching out. His favorite stage roles included Riff in West Side Story, Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid, and any role he could dance his feet off in like Footloose or Seven Brides. All who know Tevin know that he is in heaven right now choregraphing and dancing to the best music ever. Tevin is survived by his mom Donna Cates, his sister Taryn Lea Cates, his father Marcus Cates, his sisters Dayden and Ashlyn Cates, his step sister Morgan Cates, his grandfather Don Higginbotham, his grandparents Billy and Sondra Pate, his great-grandmother Lou Datray, his uncle David Higginbotham, his uncle Darrel Higginbotham and his cousins Baylee, Dylan, and Ally, and his uncle and aunt Duane and Carla Higginbotham, family members Sue and Charles Nutt, and family members Dee Dee and Jill Hankinson and Hunter Martin. Tevin's love of life and of his family and friends will live on in all of us. How blessed we are to have him in our lives here on earth and having him wait for us in heaven to spend eternity with him and our heavenly father. Wade Family Funeral Home & Crematory 817-274-9233
