Terry Don Osburn joined his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 8, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was 63 years old.
Born in Boyd, Texas on June 12, 1953, Terry was the sixth of 10 children. He often appeared to be the smartest of the bunch, likely because he was frequently quieter than the other nine. If only the rest would pay more attention to Solomon's Proverbs….
Terry graduated from Boyd High School in 1971 where he played football, was nominated “Most Friendliest” (an indication of the rigor of Boyd education) and was voted FHA Beau (an indication of Terry's good looks).
After high school, Terry met his wife of 36 years, Sherry, in a college church ministry. The two were married on May 29, 1980. Terry worked at Gearhart and Computalog before joining AT&T, where he did something important--no one is sure what--for a number of years.
Terry was an elder at Woodland West Church of Christ, which he and Sherry have attended since 1980. He loved to spread the word of Jesus, from working at Circle C Camp in Colorado after high school, mission trips to New York City in his early 20s to a mission trip to Ecuador just last year. He was looking forward to more mission work after retirement.
Terry was also passionate about the outdoors and spent free time hiking, camping, biking and volunteering for Cleburne State Park and Dinosaur State Valley Park, where he worked on trail restorations. He was known by family far and wide as the man to call when you needed an expert to fell a tree.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Wendell and Naomi Osburn. He is survived by many who love him, including his wife Sherry; three children and their spouses, Jason and Emily Osburn and Dustin and Brooke Osburn of Covington, and Alisha and Joshua Tucker of Richland, WA; nine brothers and sisters; four grandchildren, Davis, Anna, Eliza and Gabe; his parents-in-law Gabe and Juanette Davis; brother- and sister-in-law; 30 nieces and nephews; and 25 great-nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in the name of Terry Osburn to the Woodland West Church of Christ to allow the youth he was so passionate about to spread the word of Christ through mission work. He would also love for donations to be made to Dinosaur Valley State Park (PO Box 396, Glenrose, TX 76043) in his name or for the organization Hope Outfitters to be supported through donations or purchases.
