Sylvia Ann Alvarado

November 12, 1937 — August 18, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sylvia Ann Broussard Alvarado on August 18, 2024 in Arlington, Texas.

Sylvia was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on November 12, 1937 to Reving Joseph and Esther Marie Lopez Broussard.

Sylvia was deeply passionate about her family and leaves behind a legacy of love and commitment. She was a devoted wife for 68 years to her high school sweetheart, Frank Louis Alvarado. Their inseparable bond was stronger than ever; she passed away 7 days after learning of Frank’s death. She was a cherished mother to Francesca Thibodeaux (husband David), Frank Alvarado, Jr. (wife Amanda), Alison Mackey (husband Craig), Michael Alvarado (wife Joanna) and Monica Alvarado. She was also a very proud grandmother to 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Sylvia was always there when her children needed her most, offering support, wisdom, and love in abundance. She had devout faith and compassion for the less fortunate. She infused kindness, generosity and faith in her children at meals and bedside prayer time, continuing through her actions into their adult lives. Over the final days of her life she was told several times by close family members that she had also been like a mother to them. Sylvia was taught to sew by her grandmother and namesake, Sylvanie Lopez. She continued this craft throughout her life, also taking up crocheting, knitting and cross-stitch. She leaves behind many treasures that she made over the years along with a legacy of South Louisiana cooking.

Sylvia enjoyed camping vacations with her family as well as fantastic journeys to many destinations around the world with the love of her life. She spoke fondly of cruising the Nile, visiting the Great Pyramids and also of having coffee with her beloved while gazing at Mount Kilimanjaro during an African Safari. Sylvia and Frank spent their retirement years in Horseshoe Bay, TX where she enjoyed golfing with her many friends. She celebrated two holes-in-one and sipped “birdie juice” many, many times over the years.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; her parents Reving and Esther Broussard and her brother Reving (Sonny) Broussard, Jr. Her legacy will live on through her surviving sibling, Gail Boudreaux as well as her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous friends.
