Susan Glembin Schwartz

December 1, 1959 — March 29, 2025

Arlington

Susan Marie Catherine Glembin Schwartz, beloved mother, grandmother, and wife passed away on March 29, 2025 at age 65, holding her daughters’ hands. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, David Schwartz, and mother Catherine Fahey Glembin. She is survived by her daughters, Caitlin (and her husband Seth) and Erin (and her husband Adam), and three grandchildren, Bruce (11), Amelia (5), and Brady (2). She is also survived by her siblings.

The fifth of seven children born to Catherine and Herb Glembin, Susan cherished memories of her large family in Chicago and Wisconsin, often recalling stories of road trips (sitting backwards in the family station wagon), skiing, flying, and working at her Dad’s gas station. Susan was the first in her family to pursue higher education, attending Monmouth College in 1977 and, after a short break following her car accident in 1980, earning her degree. She began her teaching career at Booker T. Washington in Tampa, FL and met a handsome airman from MacDill Air Force Base when she competed in the Miss Florida Wheelchair Pageant. They married in 1985 and were stationed in Germany two years later. Susan continued her teaching career as a DoDDS employee, and they welcomed Caitlin in 1989. Erin completed the family in 1994 and the Schwartz family spent the next 20 years traversing Europe. Between trips, Susan went on to earn two Master’s Degrees and a Doctorate in Education, focused in special education. Most of her career was spent supporting students with learning disabilities, as well as social, emotional, and behavioral needs.

Susan retired from teaching in 2017 and moved to Arlington, TX to become a full-time nana. She pursued her favorite hobbies: sewing and house projects, while grandparenting-especially in the summertime when the pool at her house was full of grandkids.

Susan will be remembered for her humor, wit, intelligence, and love. She lived a large life, with incredible experiences and crossing off countless bucket list items, but her happiest moments were spent with her children and grandchildren (who all know the proper technique to wax antique furniture). We will remember the lessons she taught us, the support she gave us, and the love that carries us forward.
