Sue Ann Hogg, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, in Arlington, Texas, at the age of 84. Sue was born on April 13, 1940, in Midland, Texas, and lived a life marked by resilience, faith, and a passion for education and service.
Sue's life was drastically impacted at the age of 12 following a devastating car accident caused by a drunk driver. This accident took the lives of her parents, Emil and Inez Stuter, and her brother, Robert Herman Stuter. Sue was the only survivor. She was lovingly raised by her Aunt Julia and Uncle George Roland in Dallas, Texas, where she would later graduate from Woodrow Wilson High School.
A lifelong learner, Sue graduated from Texas Christian University in 1961, where she majored in Home Economics and met the love of her life, William Clifford "Porky" Hogg Jr. Married in 1961, they built a family rooted in faith, love, and service.
Sue had a passion for teaching, particularly Life Science, which she shared with her students at Shackelford Junior High in Arlington for decades. Known for her creativity and dedication, she required her students to complete a unique wildflower project that sparked a love of nature and wildflowers in many young minds. Sue welcomed all pets-skunks, snakes, ducks, guinea pigs, rats - she used some in the classroom and the others in her home to teach everyone about the wonders of life. Sue continued to grow in all facets of life, earning her masters degree from Texas Woman's College. Sue took pride in mentoring her students, many who went on to become teachers themselves.
Sue's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of St. Alban's Anglican Parish, where she served in all areas of the church, including Senior Warden. Her faith was unwavering, even in the face of great personal loss, including the tragic death of one of her sons, Robert due to another drunk driver. Despite these hardships, Sue remained positive and focused on serving others, particularly through her work with the Arlington Life Shelter, where she provided meals and prayed with those in need.
In the 1960's Sue started the La Leche League Club for Tarrant County, to promote and help women with breastfeeding. She was also an advocate of natural childbirth and petitioned to the Harris Methodist Hospital Board to allow Porky to be one of the first fathers in the delivery room. She never met a stranger, and was known for her inquisitive nature and her genuine interest in the lives of others. She had the gift of making everyone feel valued, loved, and listened to, and she always made sure those around her felt at home-especially during her favorite holiday, Easter. She would cook food for all to ensure everyone felt the warmth in her home and the gift of the resurrection.
In her final years, Sue took great pride in her independence, purchasing her first car in her name, which she got to pick out all on her own, a red Lexus, which became a symbol of her resilient spirit. She enjoyed her daily trips to Sonic for a large Diet Coke, where she built a personal loving relationship with the staff.
Sue was deeply proud of her family, especially her children, and cherished the time she spent with them and all the family and friends. She is survived by her sons, William Clifford Hogg III and wife Sharon, her daughter-in-law Julie Hogg and partner Jeff Harper, Jim Hogg and wife Elizabeth, and Bowie J. Hogg and wife Leslie; and her grandchildren Kelly Hogg Green and husband Travis, Daniel Hogg and wife Jacqueline, Robert Emil Hogg Jr. and fiancée Hannah Payton, John Hogg and wife Natalie, Ashley Hogg, Brady Hogg, Colby Hogg, Helen Hogg, and Ellis Hogg. She also leaves behind her brothers, George Roland Jr., James Roland, John Roland, and Joe Roland as well as countless extended family members and friends who were touched by her generosity, wit, and warmth.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband, William Clifford "Porky" Hogg Jr.; her parents, Emil and Inez Stuter, her brother Robert Herman Stuter, her adopted parents, George and Julia Roland; and her son, Robert Emil Hogg.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at St. Alban's Anglican Parish, 911 S Davis Dr., Arlington, TX 76013. A Memorial Service will follow on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:30 PM, also at St. Alban's Anglican Parish. A reception will be held in the fellowship hall following the service.
The family asks that donations be made in Sue's memory to St. Alban's Anglican Parish or the Life Shelter, two places close to her heart.
Sue's vibrant spirit, unwavering faith, and love for family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
