Steven R McCoy

Steven R. McCoy, lovingly known as Steve, passed away on March 17, 2025, in Fort Worth, Texas, at the age of 73, after a courageous battle with complications related to lung cancer.

Born on May 29, 1951, in Columbus, Ohio, Steve grew up with a passion for sports and family. He graduated from Sam Houston High School in 1969, where he was an active participant in both the band and basketball team. Steve later pursued higher education, earning a degree in Business Administration from the University of Arlington in 1988.

Steve's love for life and laughter made him a friend to all who knew him. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was involved in the Genesis Sunday School Class. A devoted brother and a loyal friend, Steve had an infectious sense of humor and a gift for telling stories and jokes that will be remembered fondly by all who heard them.

One of Steve's greatest passions was golf. Alongside his brother Joe, Steve traveled across the country, from Florida to Arizona, playing on some of the finest golf courses. His best friend and golfing companion, Bill Kellenberger, was a cherished part of these adventures, with countless memories made along the way. One of Steve’s proudest moments was his infamous hole-in-one—a testament to his love for the game. Steve was also an avid sports fan, always watching games on TV and attending Texas Rangers games whenever he could.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Marsh McCoy, and his nephew, Scott Pound. He is survived by his brother, Joe McCoy, his sister, Kathy McCoy Pound and brother-in-law Robert Pound, nephew Bryan Pound (Angela), grandnephew Michael Berger, and grandniece Leah Pound.

A service to celebrate Steve’s life will be held on March 29, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Worth, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Steve's memory.

Steve will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and joy for life will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
