ARLINGTON -- Stella P. Broom, 70, passed away Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, in Arlington.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at St. John Church, 1701 W. Jefferson St., Grand Prairie, with Dr. Denny D. Davis. Interment: 2:15 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Lane B. Visitation: The family will receive friends 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Stella was the youngest of 10 children, born April 29, 1943, in Yselta to Callie and Pinkey Odom. Stella and John Broom ("Darling" as she loved to call him) were blessed in holy matrimony June 10, 1958, in Las Cruces, N.M. And from this union six children were born.
Stella, a military wife for over 30 years, had a strong commitment for caring for others, which led to her profession as a certified nursing assistant and a volunteer with the Army community services. She loved to express her passion and creativity through her oil paintings.
She was an active member of St. John Church in Grand Prairie. where she was involved with the Senior Saints Ministry and taught with the mission group. Stella accepted her calling as an evangelist over 40 years ago. She had a strong desire and passion for wanting to help others and sharing God's word. Stella's love for God and reading the Bible was most important to her and helped lay a strong foundation for her children. Through devotions and many prayer sessions, she helped to instill in her children to always put God first in their lives.
Survivors: Her husband of 55 years, John; sisters, Gladys Busby and Daisy Milner; children, Gerald Broom, Carolyn Harris, Michelle Broom, Angela Jones, John Broom Jr. and Mark Broom; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
