Sim William Goodall, 91 years, left for his eternal reward on Monday, September 25, 2023. He was a resident of Whitney, Texas at the time of his passing. He was surrounded by his family in Whitney when he passed.
Sim was born on February 15, 1932 in Memphis, Texas to Dr. OR and Betty Goodall.
A native of Memphis, Texas he graduated from the Allen Military Academy of Bryan, Texas in 1950. He received BBA and JD degrees from Baylor University, receiving his law degree in February of 1958. He married Bobbie Wirth Goodall in November of 1956.
Sim began his legal career in Tulia, Texas in 1958, moving back to Memphis in November 1959. He served as county attorney for Hall County having been elected in 1960. In 1961, he was recalled to active military service with the US Air Force. He served in TN, Southeast Asia, Germany, Arizona, Australia, Alabama, Virginia and Illinois. He attended the Air War College, The Hague Academy of International Law in the Netherlands, and the University of Oklahoma Graduate School. He retired from the USAF on March 1, 1980 as the Command Judge Advocate for the Air Force Communications Command as a full Colonel.
Following his retirement from the Air Force, he returned to Memphis in 1980 and re-establish his law practice. He also served as assistant district attorney for the 100th judicial district of Texas for 8 years and was a partner in the Williams, McCoy and Goodall law firm with offices in Memphis and Childress.
In January 1993, Sim and Bobbie moved to Odessa where he accepted a position as senior assistant city attorney and police legal advisor. On April 1, 1996, he accepted a position with the Arlington Texas Police Department as a legal advisor and retired from his municipal position in 2006. After retiring from the Arlington Police Department, he accepted a position as associate municipal court judge with the city of Arlington until his retirement from that position in September 2021.
Sim was a member of the Texas Bar Association, The Church of Christ, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Retired Officers Association, Air Force Retired Judge Advocates Association, Boy Scouts of America and Korean War Veterans Association.
He volunteered at the DFW National Cemetery for 15 years and at the VA hospital assisting veterans and their widows obtain benefits.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jean Goodall of Whitney Texas, a daughter Sharon and Galon Jones of Whitney Texas, daughter, Laura and Marlon Duckett of Whitney Texas, daughter, Brenda and Kevin Johnson of Whitney Texas, son Robert and Kathy Goodall of Irving Texas, sister, Betty Ann Dowd of Ft. Worth Texas, a niece and nephew, 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Sim was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. OR Goodall, Sister, Jane Goodall, brother, Robert Goodall Jr., Grandson Kiel Baker and great granddaughter, Leah Edwards.
Visitation will be at Wade Funeral Home, Arlington, Texas Monday, October 9th from 4:30 to 6:30. Celebration of life at Wade Funeral Home, Arlington, Texas Tuesday, October 10th at 10:30 AM with interment to follow at DFW National Cemetery at 1 PM.
