Sidney Wayne Cook

Sidney Wayne Cook, known affectionately as Sid, passed away on August 12, 2024, at the age of 84 in Arlington, Texas. Born on December 14, 1939, in Miami, Oklahoma, Sid’s life was a testament to his deep faith and commitment to his family.

Sid dedicated 20 years of service to the Air Force, where he cultivated lifelong friendships and a discipline that he applied in all areas of his life. He was a proud graduate of Oklahoma State University, and received his Masters Degree at Midwestern State which further shaped his character and intellect.

A devout member of Grace Lutheran Church, Sid’s faith was central to his life. He was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and woodworking. These hobbies were not only a pastime but a way for him to connect with nature and gather his family for cherished moments of fellowship.

Sid was a loving and devoted husband to Mary Jo Cook for 61 years. He is survived by his daughters, Shawn (Mike) Curtis, Cindy (Chris) Hickman, and Amy (Ken) Homeyer; his grandchildren, Patrick (Ashley) Curtis, Katie Curtis, Sydnee (Tyler) Foster, Molly (Griffin) Giles, Madeleine Hickman, and Charlie Hickman; and great-grandchildren, Finley, Audrey, Grayson, and Adelaide. He was also a beloved brother and uncle to many who will miss his guidance and warmth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Al Joseph Cook and Snow Flake Ballinger Cook, and his brothers, James Ellsworth and Charles Edwin.

A celebration of Sid’s life will be held on Saturday, August 17 at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 210 W Park Row Dr. in Arlington, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Grace Lutheran Church Pavilion Fund, honoring Sid’s memory and his commitment to his church community. Sid’s legacy of love, faith, and family will live on through the many lives he touched.
