Sean "Silverback" Patrick Harrington passed away on January 31, 2025, at the age of 60, in Arlington, Virginia. Born on March 25, 1964, in Long Beach, California, Sean was known for his sense of humor, loyalty and his dedication, whether at home or work.
Sean grew up in a large Catholic family with 7 siblings. His parents, Gerald and Anne, instilled strong values and faith at a young age, which he leaned on throughout his life. He thrived at Angelo State University and honed his love of fitness through sports and won a slam dunk contest. After graduating with a Computer Science degree, he commissioned in the United States Air Force, where he served from 1987 until 2014, achieving the prestigious rank of Colonel. He served all over the world as a Navigator and Electronic Warfare Officer on the B-52H and RC-135V/W, serving in support of SOUTHERN WATCH, NORTHERN WATCH, ALLIED FORCE, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM. After retiring, he joined Lockheed Martin and excelled as the Director C4ISR Systems where he continued supporting the defense of our nation.
Sean met Suzanne "Suzy" Harrington in ROTC, and they married in 1987. They raised their 3 children, Michelle, Tommy, and Laura while moving around the world in support of the Air Force. One of his favorite assignments was in Stuttgart, Germany, where he enjoyed traveling to churches, castles, and trying all types of food. He also enjoyed commanding the 67th Operations Support Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He married Camille "Millie" Harrington after his first marriage was annulled. They enjoyed traveling together and visiting family, especially his grandkids. One constant throughout his life was his love of fitness and encouraging others to participate, whether on a basketball court, running, Spartan Races, or on his long bicycle rides.
Sean was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Anne Harrington.
Sean is survived by Millie and her daughter Mia Lopus as well as Michelle (Christopher), Tommy (Lizzie), and Laura (Mike) Newhouse. He was a proud Grandpa to Jane, Lincoln, and Jaxon and loved every minute with them. He is survived by his siblings, Daniel, Patricia Colbert, Marie Setliff, Quinn, Kevin, Stephen, and Kathleen Hauck as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
