Scott Gene Chance

Services for Scott Gene Chance, 83, of Arlington, Texas, will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Wade Family Funeral Home, with Rev. Tom Reeder officiating. Entombment will follow at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington at 3:30 PM. Dr. Chance passed away August 12, 2018 at Methodist Dallas Medical Center. He was born July 23, 1935, in Paris, Texas to G.W. and Pauline Toney Chance. Gene was a graduate of Sulphur Springs High School, Paris Junior College, Midwestern University, and received his Doctorate in Education at University of North Texas in Denton. He worked as a teacher, coach, and school administrator before retiring from a career in education after 30 years in 1986. He then became interested in technology and computers, and began a second career as an Information Technology Specialist. He was most recently employed as a Director at Maddox Metal Works in Dallas. Gene was a member of First Christian Church in Arlington where he held many leadership roles for many years, including serving as Elder and Moderator. Gene was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He had a love for life and people, which was reflected in his smile and genuine kindness. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers C.W. Chance and Sammy Paul Chance; and sisters Virginia Shaw and Christine Smith. Gene is survived by his loving family including his wife of 59 years, Carol Joyce Paxson Chance of Arlington; daughter Camille Porter (Clay) of Denton; daughter Laura Hopkins (John Demby) of Arlington; brothers, Tony Chance, Bill Chance (Tamra), and Bobby Chance (Dot); sisters, Sue Chance and Melba Shumaker (Jerry); grandchildren, Cameron Hopkins (Sterling) of Grand Prairie, Caitlyn Hopkins (Austin Anderson) of Weatherford, and Payton Porter of Denton; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bill Chance, Bobby V. Chance, Michael Chance, John Chance, Clay Porter, Cameron Hopkins, John Demby, and Austin Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Chance and Robert Howington. Visitation is scheduled from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, August 17 at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W.
