Sarah Ellen Dowdy, 78, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2020 in Arlington, and was welcomed by Jesus Christ into her eternal heavenly home.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, at First Baptist Church, 301 S. Center St., Arlington. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Mission Arlington or International Friends c/o First Baptist Church in Arlington.
Sarah was born on June 8, 1942 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to James Kenneth Chambers and Maurine Walton Chambers. She married John V. Dowdy Jr. on June 13, 1964 in Benton, Arkansas. She enjoyed playing the organ for her home church in Benton.
Sarah received her B.A. from Baylor University in 1964. She worked as a case worker for McLennan County Child Welfare from 1967-1968, and Tarrant County from 1970-1972. An Arlington, Texas resident since 1969, she was an active member of First Baptist Church. After her children were born, she became a full-time homemaker and volunteer.
She was a decades-long member and spent many years as Director of International Friends, a ministry arm of area churches. Sarah touched lives all over the world. She was also a member of Mu Phi Epsilon Music Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors: Husband, John V. “Skip” Dowdy Jr.; daughters, Rebekah Anne Dowdy Campbell and husband, Mark, Susannah Lynn Dowdy Elizondo and husband, Jeff; sister, Mary Hull; brother, Tom Chambers and wife, Margaret; and grandchildren, Logan, Lauren, Mae, Diego and Sophia.
