Sabra Jean Nesbitt, 90, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021, in Arlington, Texas.
Graveside services will be held at 9:15 a.m., Friday, January 14th at Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
Sabra was born on July 28, 1931 in Dallas, Texas to Ralph and Edna Louise (Phillips) Reed.
She graduated from Arlington High School in 1948, married William Nesbitt in 1949, and went to work as a bookkeeper and secretary.
William was in the Navy, which meant moving anywhere and everywhere his career took him. Sabra was a strong Navy wife and had a passion for helping others. While living in Harrisburg, PA she ran emergency shelters during two floods and trained volunteers in first aid courses. Their family moved to Arlington in 1980 and were members of Epworth Methodist Church. Sabra was a homemaker, enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. She loved to read, enjoyed cooking and engaging others in conversation. She was a leader and a volunteer for the Girl Scouts and the American Red Cross.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, William Llewellyn Nesbitt in 2019, and her parents, Ralph and Edna Reed and a sister, Betty.
Sabra is survived by three sons, Bill Nesbitt and wife, Marge, Eric Nesbitt and wife Cathy, and Tom Nesbitt and wife, Linda; one daughter, Ellen Miller and husband, Bill, her brother, Uel Smith Jr. and wife, Mary and a sister, Sue Gray and husband, Jerry. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
