Ruth Wilson

March 26, 1937 — May 18, 2021

Jimmie Ruth Wilson (Ruth), 84, passed away on Tuesday morning, May 18, 2021 in her apartment in Arlington Texas. Services will be on Saturday, May 29th, 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 910 S. Collins, Arlington 76010. Memorial gifts may be made to the International Myeloma Foundation at www.myeloma.org. Ruth was born on March 26, 1937 in Coleman County, Texas to Jim and Era Watson. She grew up on the family dairy farm just south of Coleman TX, with her parents, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. For years these siblings were known to their ever-growing Watson extended families as "The Great Eight." Ruth attended Coleman High School where she was a top student, a cheerleader and pianist for her father's Gospel Quartet. Here she also met Robert R. Wilson, whom she married after one year of college. The couple soon moved to San Antonio Texas where they lived for almost 60 years, raising their children and enjoying many close friendships. Ruth was an active member of Woodlawn Christian Church and Western Hills Christian Church, and a devoted volunteer for several helping organizations in San Antonio. As their youngest was completing high school, Ruth went to work at USAA, where she worked for 15 years. Ruth was a true artist in needlework and a skilled seamstress, creating beautiful clothing for her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a great cook and exceptional baker-her chocolate cake will be sorely missed at the annual Watson Family Reunion each summer in Coleman. She and Robert loved to travel and had many wonderful adventures together all around the world. Eight years after Robert's passing, Ruth moved to Arlington Texas, in 2018, where her son Scott and Kara had raised their family and where son Don and Carol would soon find themselves living, thanks to a church ministry call. She became active in First Christian Church of Arlington, singing in the Chancel Choir, participating in Bible studies and enjoying weekly Bridge and other fellowship. Ruth passed peacefully after a sudden surge of a cancer that had been managed for years. Her three children, including daughter, Holly of Illinois, were all blessed to be by her side on the evening before she went to be with our Lord and loved ones awaiting. Ruth is remembered by everyone who has known her for her genuine kindness; the first adjective used to describe Ruth is always "She was so sweet." Her children and grandchildren will miss her sincere interest in and full support of every interest, opportunity and challenge we have faced. We will also miss her always-ready smile and wonderful sense of humor. The family is especially grateful to the wonderful doctors and staff of UT Southwestern in Dallas and Ft. Worth as well as the doctors who cared for her in San Antonio. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, by her beloved husband of 54 years, Robert Wilson, by a sister, Welma Jean who died in childhood, by a sister, Patty Finch and a brother, David Watson. She is survived by her children, Don Wilson and wife Carol of Arlington, Holly Teague and husband Chris of Edwardsville, Illinois, and R. Scott Wilson and wife Kara of Arlington; by her sisters Veta Percy, Grace Crum, Carolyn Dix and Marguerite Daugherty and by a brother Collier Watson; by her nine grand-children and three great-grandchildren and by a fourth great-grandchild due later this year. She is also survived by a wonderful extended family and so many dear friends from so many blessed years. Wade Family Funeral Home 817-274-9233
