Ruth Johnson Luebke was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She followed Jesus faithfully, and considered her job as prayer warrior her most important, as demonstrated by her prayer lists, she faithfully kept. She was a nurse, and a stay-at-home mom, married for 34 years. Ruth passed peacefully to her heavenly home on July 22, 2021, at the age of 82 after a struggle with diverticulitis and increasing health issues. She thankfully was able to visit with and hear from each of her 4 surviving children, 12 grandchildren, and many of her 15 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was born to Oscar and Edith Johnson in Birmingham, AL on October 24, 1938. She fondly remembered growing up in St. Louis, MO, helping organize the school library in 6th grade, and roller skating with her family. She moved to Arlington, TX her senior year of high school in 1955, so that her father could work in the brand-new-at-the-time General Motors. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1956, worked for an insurance company as a secretary, then soon met and married Richard Luebke in 1956, of Wisconsin. Together, they had 5 children, David, who preceded Ruth in death in 2019, James, Paul, Jonathan, and Stephanie.
Ruth decided to become a nurse at the age of 40, after raising her family, she pursued her love of caring for others. She meticulously kept notes of her patients so that she could remember to ask about their families and needs when she cared for them. Ruth was a granddaughter, and a daughter of preachers who founded The First Church of God out of Anderson, IN, and she also spent many years as a pastor's wife and was actively involved in church even after their divorce in 1994. She later put her passions of cooking and cake-decorating into place at Park Springs Bible Church in Arlington, TX cooking dinners for families before Wednesday night activities there. Her other passions included travel, which she took every chance to visit her children in the North whenever she could, she loved music, and enjoyed writing. She passed all these interests to many in her family.
Ruth's family expanded to include daughters-in-law Carol, Debbie, Rose, Bonnie, Susie, and son-in-law Greg Hall. She was blessed with 12 Grandchildren who survive her: Michael, Kimberly, Heather, Daniel, Susan, Rene, Thomas, Joshua, Jamie, Katherine, Hannah, and Samuel. She was further so happy to welcome 15 Great-Grandchildren: Eric Jr. Emily, Tristan, Lilly, Jasmine, Brayden, Emma, Lilly, Maleah, Spencer, Oliver, Scarlett, and Onyx, Nathaniel, and JJ.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Edith, her cousin, Martha Joy Kirby, her brothers, Donald, and Wayne Johnson, and her son, David Luebke. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Johnson, cousin, David Kirby, uncle, William Skelton, sister-in-law, Jimmy Johnson, nieces, Tina Shue and Andrea Bowman, nephews, Bill Johnson and Randy Johnson, 4 children, and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
