Russell Atkins

March 29, 1933 — October 30, 2017

Born 29 March 1933 Trail Lake, Mississippi to parents George and Alma Frances (Fanny Buffington) Russell passed away peacefully 30 October 2017 after his courageous battle of cancer. He was surrounded by his family, longtime companion and friends. Russell was a long-time resident of Stevenson, Connecticut before retiring to Arlington, Texas. Russell served in the United States Army and Army Reserves at the rank of sergeant during the Korean War. Russell also proudly served the Stevenson Community as a volunteer firefighter and had risen to the rank of Fire Chief. Over the years he drove a residential oil truck for Standard Oil Company and worked construction with A & A Quality Paving. Russell was always quick with a joke or to lend a helping hand to those in need. Russell will be missed dearly. Russell is the beloved father of daughter, Fran Marazoff (Steve), son, Scott Atkins (Kathleen), son, Mathieu Atkins and daughter, Melody Atkins. Russell will also be fondly remembered by his four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind his sister, Maxine McGehee, brother, Billy Ray (Cecilia), sister, Liz Martovich (Bill) and his companion of twelve years, Patricia Couch. Russell is predeceased by his sister, Alma Sworn, brother, George Atkins and his sister, Faye Holeman and infant daughter, Debra Atkins. Services to be announced.
