Ruby Jo Dossey Bumgarner (93), wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother (affectionately called Memaw by her grands) passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2021.
She was a longtime resident of Arlington before retiring to Granbury, Texas in 1984.
Ruby was born September 24, 1927 in Murfreesboro, Arkansas to Joe Lex and Labitha Dossey, nee Alford. She had 2 sisters (Lucy and Wanda) and 2 brothers (Travis and Morris). She attended school in Murfreesboro and graduated there.
Ruby married the only man she ever loved, Henry Nevell (Cotton) Bumgarner on March 9, 1946 in Murfreesboro AR. They had 4 children Terry, Dennis, Dewey and Hugh.
Ruby was a homemaker, until her oldest son left for the Air Force. She worked outside the home for many years as a supervisor for Gilbert Systems in Arlington until she retired. Ruby had many friends that loved her as she did them. After being in Granbury for a number of years she moved her parents there and cared for both of them for 10 years before they passed 4 years apart.
She was a devout Christian all her life and was a member of the Thorp Springs church of Christ in Granbury Texas for 37 years. She loved her church family and looked forward to game nights on Mondays and sometimes Wednesdays after church.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, Nevell her husband of 54 years, her sister Wanda Riddle, two brothers Travis and Morris Dossey and two of her sons Dennis and Terry.
She is survived by her sons, Dewey Bumgarner and wife, Janet of Fort Worth, Hugh Bumgarner of Arlington; daughter-in-law, Barbara Bumgarner; grandchildren, Micky Michelle Morris, Stacie Bumgarner, Denise Gomez and husband, Joey, Donnie Lynn Bumgarner and wife, Leah, Dewey Bumgarner Jr. and wife, Heather, and Cathy Jo Benavides and husband, Joe; seven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; sister, Lucy Younger of Searcy, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Services at Wade Family Funeral Home in Arlington. Visitation Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 9:30am to 10:15am followed by a Graveside Service at Johnson Station Cemetery at 11:00am.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or the American Heart Association or a contribution to your family church in her name.
