Ruby Chandler, 82, passed away peacefully Friday, June 1, 2018.
SERVICE: 10:00 AM Thursday (6/7), Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Interment 12:30 PM, Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas.
Visitation: 6-8:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
Ruby was born in Mt. Pleasant TX to Hugh Harbour and Christine Spencer Harbour.
Her family moved to Dallas when she was 10. After she received her GED, she cared for her mother until she passed away. Later, she went to work at LTV in Grand Prairie where she worked until she retired. While working at LTV she met Roy John Chandler and they were married January 8, 1977 at Trinity Methodist Church in Arlington. Ruby was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful cook – her specialties being strawberry cake, squash casserole and her famous “Ruby Dip.”
Ruby was a devoted care giver to Roy and anyone else in need of her help.
They were members of Woods Chapel Baptist Church where Ruby spent Sunday mornings working in the nursery rocking babies.
For years Ruby was an Avon Representative and won many Miss Albee awards.
She was a “grandmother” to all their neighborhood kids – celebrating with cookies, cakes and presents.
Ruby is survived by her brothers, Joseph Sloan of Grand Prairie, James Leatherwood of Paraguay, and Jerry Leatherwood and by her sister Velma Inman both of Dallas.
She is survived by daughters, Roianna Chandler Grigsby (Dick) of Arlington and Nancy Virginia Bradford (Lane) of Montgomery, TX. By grandchildren: Monica Grigsby Kientz (Michael) of Colorado Springs, CO, Michael Grigsby (Esther) of Ault, CO, Steven Bradford (Charlene) and Cariann Bradford of League City, TX. Her great-grandchildren are Ashley, Chandler, Aly, Travis, Sam, Corbett, Sydney, Elizabeth, Henry and Delaney. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruby was preceded in death by husband, Roy John Chandler, parents, Hugh and Christine Harbour, brother, Charlie Harbour and sisters, Margie, Francis and Evelyn and by grandson Scott Grigsby.
She will be lovingly remembered by her family, friends and neighbors for her love, friendship and devotion.
