Roy Dell Johnson Sr., 86, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in Arlington.
Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, at North Davis Church of Christ, 1601 N. Davis Dr., Arlington. Interment: 12:30 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 26, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington.
Roy Dell was born on April 9, 1931 in Calvert, Texas to Roy Johnson and Callie Stroud Johnson. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. Roy Dell was a longtime Arlington resident and member of West Mansfield Church of Christ.
He was a longtime business owner in Arlington, having owned Roy Johnson's Exxon (on the corner of Park Row and Cooper St.) across the street from Arlington High School. He also owned an excavating company. Roy Dell later worked for SCI and Moore Funeral Home in the Pre-planning Department. He joined Wade Family Funeral Home in 2003 as a Pre-need Counselor and Public Relations Advisor.
Roy Dell enjoyed traveling, singing, socializing and fishing.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Catherine Johnson.
Survivors: Wife, Tonya Faye Johnson; son, Roy Dell Johnson Jr,; daughters, Karen Ladell Johnson and Sonya Renee Williams; brother, Samuel Earl Johnson and wife, Margaret; aunts, Billie Jean and Ruby; grandchildren, Mallory, Jeremiah, Jesse, Jordan, Hannah and Micah; and great-granddaughter, Journey.
