Roy Schemensky, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2023, at the age of 82. He leaves behind a legacy of love and a lifetime of memories. His departure has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but he will be fondly remembered and celebrated.
Born on December 18, 1940, Roy was the son of Peter Castan and Lillian Loretta Schemensky of Chicago, Illinois. One of five siblings, he graduated from the University of Illinois having studied Aeronautic Engineering. He then moved to Texas to work on the F111 project at General Dynamics and later earned master’s degrees in Engineering from Southern Methodist University and in Software Engineering from Texas Christian University.
Roy’s career as an aeronautical and software engineer spanned several decades, during which he made valuable contributions to the field while working for 32 years at General Dynamics and later Lockheed Martin. He was responsible for writing the first aero module program that the Air Force and NASA would use to run calculations to predict the aerodynamic characteristics of aircraft. His work would continue to be referenced by other engineers for decades.
Roy cherished his free time and spent many days in the garden or quietly reading the latest legal thriller novel. He served as the treasurer of the Arlington Men’s Garden Club for many years and volunteered his time helping prepare taxes for others. Simultaneously he remained an avid learner, always aspiring to keep up with the latest trends in technology or research family genealogy. He attended First Methodist Church in Mansfield where he was a member of the Seeker Sunday School class.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jeannie Schemensky, and four children: Kim Zolan and her husband John, Lisa Banks and her husband Charles, Lori Massey and her husband Richard, and Scott Schemensky and his wife Corinna. He will also be missed by his seven grandchildren: Alex, Ashley, Rachel, Villi, Casten, Lauren, and Allison. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Jerry and David Schemensky.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 21 at 11:00 am at First Methodist Mansfield; 777 N Walnut Creek Dr, Mansfield TX 76063.
