Roy Glenn Brewster Jr. (aka “Paw Paw Zen”, aka “the dog whisperer”) has left this world to discover what he called the Divine Mystery.
Born on January 11, 1942 in Graham, Texas, to Roy Brewster Sr. and Anna Mae Braden, he graduated from Aledo High School in 1960. He worked with his father at Brewster's Foreign Car Repair in Weatherford followed by his 45 year career at the General Motors plant in Arlington. He has two children-his son Roy Glenn (RG) Brewster, lll and daughter, Tanesha Brown. He is also survived by his son-in-law Todd Brown, adored grandchildren William Cole Brown and Cameron Avery Brown, ex-wife Sandy Bell, niece Linda Haro, great-nephew Gabe Haro and valued friends at various Arlington dog parks.
A staunch Democrat, proud tree-hugger, a literal “card carrying ACLU member” (it was found in his wallet after his death). A chit-chat-hating minimalist who preferred being alone but whose true love was being in nature with his beloved dogs.
He valued his independence and sanity above all else. He lived life honestly, responsibly and charitably. He didn't buy anything on credit. One of his last transactions was a donation to the food bank.
He was brutally honest, had strong opinions and was usually correct-the most self-educated person you'd ever meet. Decades of AA meetings honed him into a great listener, not a fixer. Decades of reading about Eastern Religion, science and history gave him great comfort and ammunition for philosophical debates. Roy was a seeker and left this world on his own terms. He didn't believe in guilt trips, and he didn't believe in living for anyone other than to thine own self be true.
Roy asked that his ashes be scattered in the woods and leave things with a Upanishad quote: “The Unknown is to Rest in.” He will be missed beyond words.
