Roy Ellison Lee, Jr., a cherished father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Arlington on May 21, 2024.
Born on March 25, 1929, in Smithfield, Virginia, Roy led a life marked by service, dedication, and love. He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after graduating from high school, demonstrating his commitment to his country from a young age. His professional journey was diverse and impactful, including notable tenures at the Navy Yard, Aramark, and as a custodian at Gallaudet College, a renowned institution for the deaf and hard of hearing.
On June 3, 1969, Roy married the love of his life, Idelma Lorene Austin Lee, with whom he shared many happy years until her passing. In recent years, he found comfort and companionship living with his daughter, Ina, who lovingly cared for him during the last four years of his life.
Roy’s interests were simple yet fulfilling. He didn’t watch much television, preferring the soothing sounds of country music on the radio. He had a particular fondness for pies and cookies, which brought him great joy.
Later in life, Roy embraced his faith and became a Jehovah’s Witness, finding peace and community in his spiritual journey.
Roy was preceded in death by his beloved spouse, Idelma, his brother James, and his sister Vivian. He is survived by his devoted daughter Ina and her husband Jeffrey Johnson as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom will forever cherish the memories of their time together.
A public visitation will be held at Wade Family Funeral Home on Monday, June 10 from 6:00-8:00pm. Roy will be buried at the DFW National Cemetery on June 11, 2024 at 10:00am where an Army Honor Guard will present military honors.
Roy Ellison Lee Jr’s life was a testament to kindness, service, and quiet joys. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
