Rose Maxine Terry

July 22, 1928 — November 21, 2024

Arlington

Rose Maxine Frost Terry, 96, of Arlington, Texas, left her earthly home to be with the Lord and reunite with her husband John on November 21, 2024. Maxine, as her family knew her, was born on July 22, 1928, in Fox, Oklahoma, to Mark and Rose Etta (Glisson) Frost. Maxine was the next to youngest of her nine siblings. She graduated from Ardmore High School in Ardmore, Oklahoma and attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas on an Art scholarship. Maxine met her husband John in Ardmore through the matchmaking of “Lotty”, the hostess at an Ardmore eatery.

John and Maxine married in 1950 and began their life together of raising children and serving others. Maxine was a woman of many talents and deep love for sharing her abilities with those around her. A talented seamstress and quilter, Maxine crafted beautiful clothing for her children, as well as costumes for school plays. Her artistic talents included painting and teaching painting, serving in Bluebirds, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, serving as room mother for many of her children’s elementary years, creating sets for VBS and church musicals and arranging weekly altar flowers. Maxine was also an excellent cook. Her family enjoyed many wonderful and varied meals. She loved trying new recipes and passed her skill and love of cooking and baking to her daughters. She liked feeding crowds and shared her meals through her church Wednesday night dinners and through preparing and serving a monthly meal at the Arlington Night Shelter. She became well known for her homemade chocolate candy, a treat she made for her family, friends, and loved ones during Christmas and on special occasions. She called her gifts of homemade candy her ministry to people who had been helpers in her life.

Maxine’s legacy is one of love, devotion, and selflessness. Her generosity and hospitality left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Maxine is survived by her children: Donna Terry, Dean Terry, Leslie Terry Fonner (Alan Fonner), Lisa Terry Workman (Mark Workman), her grandchildren: Rachel Fonner Robbins (Alan Robbins), Patrick Fonner, Taylor Smith, Erin Smith, and her great grandchildren: Noella Robbins, Lucy Robbins. She was preceded in death by her husband: John Watson Terry, parents: Rose Etta Frost and Mark Frost, her siblings Mary Mills, Ira Frost, Carole Dufore, Iris Frost, Inola Brown, Thelma Digirno, Zelma Frost, Bobbie Nyemaster, Jimmy Frost.

A Celebration of Maxine’s life will be held at Wade Funeral Home on November 30, 2024. A committal service for Maxine will be held at Moore Memorial Gardens after services.

May she rest in the arms of Jesus, surrounded by His love she so graciously shared with others.
