Rose Marie Ross DeWald, 85, passed away on October 17, 2022, in Katy, Texas.
Rose DeWald was born on April 5, 1937 in Dallas, TX, to Thomas Marvin Ross and Willie Irene Ross. Rose began her work career as an executive secretary. Later becoming a Mary Kay rep where she discovered her love of sales. She jumped into the real estate world and never looked back. Rose was a successful nationwide Realtor. Her work ethics were the foundation of her award winning service in her real estate career for many years. She and her husband, Leon, joined a small firm in Arlington and built it into the predominant real estate firm in Arlington and Mansfield, Tarver & Eppes / Century 21. After Leon’s retirement, Rose became a successful contractor, designing and building custom homes for many happy homeowners.
Rose married her “Big Love”, Leon DeWald on June 14, 1971 in Dallas, Texas.
Rose loved her family and friends and she never met a stranger. She loved to laugh and forever had a smile upon her face. She loved God and she loved people. She was kind and genuine and would go out of her way to cheer up the down trodden. She was a great entertainer too and could tell a story that would keep the listener laughing. Not only did Rose enjoy all kinds of games but she was an avid bridge player and reached the rank of “Silver Life Master” and there was always an on-going Gin Rummy tournament between her and her fiercest competitor, Leon. Rose traveled the world over with family and friends. She had a true adventurous spirit; she once went parasailing, diving in a two person submarine and braved the Grand Canyon’s glass cantilevered “Skywalk”. Hunting and gardening were a favorite past time. Sports brought her much enjoyment, most especially football and baseball. Ever was she interested in history and science . Many knew her as “our yellow Rose of Texas”. Rose was a mender of hearts. She would do all in her power to help restore relationships. She was a true servant; continually helping those around her. Her light shined brightly through her actions and words. Simply stated, she loved life and people.
Rose is survived by Clifford Joe Birchett (son) and wife, Nancy; Richey Birchett (son) and wife, Babette; Karen Foster (daughter) and husband, Gerald; Melanie Whitman (daughter) and husband, Ray; eight grandchildren and eight great grand children and one great great grandchild.
Rose is preceded in death by Thomas Marvin Ross – father, Willie Irene Ross – mother, Leon DeWald – spouse, and four brothers.
The service for Rose DeWald will be held on November 7, 2022, at 2pm at DFW National Cemetery.
Memorial donations can be made in Rose’s name to Susan B. Komen Foundation or Alzheimer’s Foundation.
