Rose Marie Nelson

Rose Marie Nelson, beloved Mother and Grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2024. She was the daughter of Bryant “Buddy” Holmes and Rosa Josephine Gerbino Holmes. She was born on May 26, 1937, and was raised in Texarkana, Texas.

Rose Marie attended Texas High School in Texarkana and went on to graduate from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She met the love of her life, Basil Nelson, and they exchanged vows on September 3, 1958, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Texarkana, embarking on a journey of love and companionship that lasted a lifetime.

For 40 years, Rose Marie dedicated herself to shaping young minds as a 1st-grade teacher in the Arlington School District. Her passion for education and nurturing spirit left an indelible mark on countless lives, earning her the admiration and gratitude of generations of students and colleagues alike.

Outside of her professional teaching career, Rose Marie was an active member of the Arlington Women’s Club and found joy in attending bingo games at her local church. She was a devout member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where her faith and community involvement enriched the lives of those around her. Rose Marie’s vivacious spirit and infectious laughter endeared her to all who crossed her path. She saw the best in everyone and never wished ill upon others, leaving a legacy of love and compassion that will be remembered for years to come.

Rose Marie was preceded in death by her brothers Bryant Anthony Holmes, Robert L. Holmes, Cecil A. Holmes, and her beloved husband Basil H. Nelson.

She is survived by her loving children, Suzanne Nelson Starke and John Nelson, daughter-in-law Tanya Nelson, her cherished grandchildren Taylor LeighAnn Starke, Molly Brae Nelson, Maxwell Howard Nelson, and her great-grandchild Derrick James Starke.

Rose Marie will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, dedication to family and education, and her boundless love for all those fortunate enough to have known her. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide us, reminding us of the profound impact one person can have on the world.
