Rose was born in Cyril, OK on March 11, 1933. She moved with her parents William “Roy” Lamar and “Linnie” Lamar to Anadarko, OK. She graduated from Anadarko High School in May of 1951 and attended Bethany Peniel College, now known as Southern Nazarene University (SNU), in September 1951. After graduating from SNU on May 24, 1955, Rose married Vester Patterson on June 3, 1955, settling in Abernathy, Texas. In August 1977, Rose and her family relocated to Arlington, Texas, where she lived the rest of her life.
Rose taught in the public school system for 25 years, instructing students in grades 1 through 12 in a variety of subjects including music, journalism, and photography. Rose taught every Sunday School class in the church. One man, who attended the college class at Mid-America, after sitting under her teaching said, “That was the best Sunday School teacher I ever sat under”.
Rose served as church pianist in the Nazarene church for 40 years. She taught private piano lessons for many years. Rose was very active in her community serving as president of the Arlington Music Club, president of the Arlington Story League, and president of the Encore Club.
Rose served the Lord for over 86 years becoming a Christian at age 5.
Rose went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, one day after her 91st birthday. Rose was preceded in death by her parents William Roy & Linnie Lamar, her brothers Elzie Lamar, Walter Lamar, Wallace Lamar, and her sisters Ola Mae Walker, Doris Steverson, Joyce Davis.
Rose is survived by her husband of 68 years, Vester Patterson; her son Lynn Patterson & wife Susan, grandchildren Lea Patterson and Luke Patterson; her son Merle Patterson and wife Lorrie, grandchildren Meghan Hearnz, Rachel Patterson, Paige Kassam; her daughter Lisa Newman and husband Terry, grandson Ryan Newman, granddaughter Heather Jones & husband Travis, great-granddaughters Annabelle, Haven, Kinley, and grandson Matthew Newman.
